A Place of Hope Counseling

You don’t have to figure it all out by yourself

Life doesn't always go the way we planned. Sometimes we feel overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, or simply unsure of what to do next. Maybe you're working through something that happened in the past. Maybe you're struggling in a relationship. Or maybe you're a parent trying to understand what your child needs. Whatever brought you here, I'm glad you found your way to A Place of Hope Counseling.

I'm Wendy Hughes, M.Ed., LMHCA, and I believe therapy should feel like a safe place to be yourself—without judgment and without having to pretend that everything is okay. Together, we'll slow things down, make sense of what's going on, and work toward the changes you want to make.

You don't have to have everything figured out before you reach out.

A place to feel heard.

Sometimes we don't need someone to tell us what to do. We need someone to listen, help us sort through the mess, and remind us that things can get better. That's what I hope to provide.

I work with children, teens, and adults who are dealing with things like anxiety, stress, trauma, difficult life changes, relationship challenges, emotional struggles, and feeling stuck.

My approach is warm, practical, and tailored to the person sitting in front of me. There isn't one way to do therapy, because there isn't one kind of person who needs it.

When your child is struggling

As a school counselor, I've spent years working with children and families. I understand that when your child is struggling, it can be difficult to know what they need—or how to help. Children don't always have the words to explain what they're feeling. Sometimes their feelings come out through behavior, worry, anger, withdrawal, or changes at school or home. I work to create a space where children feel comfortable being themselves while helping them develop healthy ways to understand and manage their emotions.

Therapy for teens and adults

Being a teenager or an adult can be hard in ways that aren't always easy to explain. Maybe you're overwhelmed by anxiety. Maybe something from your past is still affecting your relationships today. Maybe you're going through a major life change, struggling with your sense of self, or simply feeling like you're not where you want to be. Therapy can give you a place to stop, breathe, and work through what's happening with someone who is there to listen.

My approach

I use approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), along with other tools based on your individual needs. But you don't need to know anything about therapy approaches before you come in. What matters most to me is getting to know you. We'll work together to understand what's going on, identify what matters most to you, and find practical ways to move forward.

Let's talk.

Taking the first step can be hard. You don't have to know exactly what you need or even know whether therapy is the right fit. That's what a consultation is for. I'd love to talk with you, answer your questions, and see if I might be the right person to help.
